It makes perfect sense. Students get a top notch culinary education; diners get a unique and reasonably priced meal. A culinary school has opened in Chicago—and it’s also a restaurant offering 3 star cuisine. And the trend is spreading….

The Parrot Cage: A Culinary School and Top Chicago Restaurant

The Parrot Cage is the name of the new restaurant/culinary school on Chicago’s South Side. Top chef Ricky Moore runs the kitchen, ensuring a high quality of food and culinary education for students. The menu reads like any fine dining establishment. Why not start with endive and marche salad, followed by tilapia fillet and washed down with warm chocolate cake? All of this will come in at less than twenty dollars! Now everyone will want to go to dine—and attend culinary school—in Chicago.

Can You Really Get a Culinary Education and Have It All?

I’m joking. In reality, this combination of culinary education and customer satisfaction is growing in the US and the UK. After all, chefs have been getting their culinary education this way for centuries. Following the school/restaurant route, however, they can get a top class culinary education in a real working kitchen and come out with the confidence and qualifications to back up their degrees. As a byproduct, of course, consumers get to sample fabulous meals at low prices. As the star of a certain cheesy TV series once said, “I love it when a plan comes together.”
